Abuja — The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Husseini Baba Yusuf, has inaugurated the FCT Area Council Election Appeal Tribunal at the High Court in Maitama, Abuja. The tribunal is tasked with hearing and deciding appeals arising from the upcoming Area Council elections scheduled for 21 February 2026.
During the inauguration, Justice Yusuf emphasized the need for impartiality and integrity, urging tribunal members to resist political and public pressure while adjudicating election disputes.
The tribunal’s establishment highlights the FCT judiciary’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process at the grassroots level. Area councils are the closest tier of government to residents, making fair dispute resolution essential for public confidence in the local election outcomes.
