Court Orders INEC to Recognise Rochas Okorocha as APC Candidate for Imo West Senatorial District Following Dispute Over Party Primary Election Ahead of 2027 Polls.
A Federal High Court has reportedly rejected Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s senatorial candidacy under the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s candidate for Imo West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling followed a legal dispute between Okorocha and Uzodimma over the APC senatorial ticket for the district.
According to reports, the court held that Okorocha won the APC senatorial primary election conducted on May 18, 2026, and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as the party’s candidate.
The court also reportedly ordered Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the APC candidate for the senatorial seat.
The dispute arose after INEC recognised Uzodimma as the winner of the party’s primary election. Okorocha subsequently challenged the outcome, arguing that the declared result did not reflect the actual proceedings of the primary.
Uzodimma, the APC and INEC reportedly opposed Okorocha’s claims during the legal proceedings.
The judgment represents a significant development in the political contest over the APC senatorial ticket for Imo West ahead of the 2027 general elections.
