Incident raises rising concerns over security for healthcare workers and residents amid ongoing kidnapping wave in Edo State
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly abducted a healthcare worker and three other individuals from a community health centre in Edo State, heightening fresh concerns about the safety of frontline medical staff and residents.
According to preliminary reports, the armed assailants stormed the facility, seized the victims and whisked them away to an unknown destination. As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to release an official statement, and the identities of those taken remain unclear.
The incident is the latest in a string of abductions recorded in parts of Edo State in recent weeks. Residents say fear has continued to spread as criminals increasingly target commuters, villagers and professionals, including health personnel providing essential services.
Community members have called on security agencies to intensify surveillance and response efforts around public institutions, particularly health centres that often operate with minimal protection. Some local leaders warned that repeated attacks on medical facilities could disrupt healthcare delivery and discourage workers from accepting rural postings.
Security operatives are believed to be making efforts to track the attackers, while families of the victims await updates and hope for their safe return.
