Senate Seeks Additional ₦30 Billion for INEC Ahead of 2027 General Elections

Senate Move to Increase Electoral Budget Beyond Initial ₦873 Billion Proposal

Senate is seeking an additional ₦30 billion for the (INEC) as preparations intensify for the .

INEC had earlier proposed a budget of about ₦873 billion to conduct the nationwide elections. However, lawmakers are now considering an increase that would push the total projected cost to over ₦900 billion if approved.

According to a report by , the additional funds are expected to support logistics, operational planning, procurement of materials, deployment of technology, and other critical components required to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The commission had presented its financial estimates before the , detailing projected expenditures for voter registration updates, training of ad hoc staff, transportation, and nationwide coordination.
