The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 30 out of 31 local government chairmanship seats in the October 5, 2024, local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) with just one seat. This was confirmed by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).
Governor Umo Eno will swear in the elected Chairmen and their Vice Chairmen today, October 7, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo. The Governor emphasized the need for a quick inauguration to allow the new officials to begin receiving their allocations and start working towards the development of their respective local government areas.
This election outcome solidifies PDP’s dominance in the state, and the swearing-in comes as part of efforts to ensure local government councils are properly positioned for effective governance.
