FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Approves Creation of 3rd Class Gbari Chiefdom in Gwagwalada to Strengthen Traditional Institutions in Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has approved the establishment of a 3rd Class Gbari Chiefdom in Gwagwalada Area Council.
The approval is part of the ongoing reforms by the FCT Administration aimed at strengthening traditional institutions and giving greater recognition to indigenous communities across the territory.
With the creation of the new chiefdom, the Gbari people in Gwagwalada will now have a formally recognized traditional stool within the structure of the FCT traditional leadership system. The stool will operate as a 3rd Class chiefdom, in line with the existing classification of traditional rulers in the Federal Capital Territory.
The development is seen as a significant step toward preserving the cultural heritage and traditional authority of indigenous groups in the FCT, while also promoting inclusiveness and grassroots leadership.
The decision by the FCT Minister comes amid broader efforts by the administration to restructure and upgrade traditional institutions across the six area councils of Abuja, ensuring that traditional rulers continue to play key roles in community development, peacebuilding, and cultural preservation.
