President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have scrapped the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development, according to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Onanuga, through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, explained that a new Ministry of Regional Development will now manage all regional commissions, including:
- Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
- North West Development Commission
- South West Development Commission
- North East Development Commission
Additionally, the National Sports Commission will now take over the responsibilities of the former Ministry of Sports.
The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, streamlining these sectors under one ministry. These decisions were part of measures to restructure the executive arm for greater efficiency.
