Computer Engineering Professor to Succeed Ishaq Oloyede as JAMB Boss in July 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure will officially end on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Professor Aina, a renowned Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is currently 39 years old and will become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB upon assumption of office.

According to the Presidency, Aina is widely respected for his expertise in digital infrastructure, institutional reforms, and examination systems management.

The new JAMB Registrar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

The Presidency further noted that Aina has over 15 years of experience advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation and institutional reforms.

He has also reportedly worked with examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) on ICT systems and examination integrity.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the capacity of the incoming Registrar to consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under the administration of Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

Professor Oloyede, who assumed office as JAMB Registrar in 2016, is widely credited with introducing major reforms, transparency, and increased revenue remittances within the examination body.

The transition is expected to officially take effect after Oloyede’s tenure expires later in July 2026.
