Minister of Works denies foul play in the death of Mary Habila, urges a forensic autopsy and says only a transparent investigation can establish the true cause of her death.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has broken his silence over the death of Mary Habila, describing the late staff member as “like a daughter” to him and calling for a thorough forensic investigation to determine the actual cause of her death.
Umahi said Mary Habila worked closely with him for about three years and dismissed allegations linking him to her death, insisting there was no foul play. He described the claims circulating on social media as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
The minister revealed that he has formally written to the Ebonyi State Police Command, requesting that a comprehensive autopsy be conducted before Habila’s body is released for burial. According to him, only a forensic examination can establish the true cause of death and put an end to speculation.
He also appealed to the deceased’s family to cooperate with investigators by consenting to the autopsy, stressing that the process is necessary to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing and assured the public that a transparent and impartial inquiry will be carried out. Authorities said updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
