The forum accuses the APC National Youth Leader of sidelining state youth leaders and undermining grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on the party’s National Chairman and National Working Committee to intervene.
A group of State Youth Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has announced a vote of no confidence in the party’s National Youth Leader, Hon. Dayo Israel.
In a communiqué addressed to the APC National Chairman at the party’s National Secretariat in Wuse II, Abuja, the forum outlined several grievances against Israel’s leadership, calling for immediate intervention by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The communiqué, signed by the forum’s Secretary, Adedeji Clement, stated that the decision followed a review of the National Youth Leader’s activities and their implications for party unity, youth mobilisation and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The forum raised the following concerns against the National Youth Leader:
1. Alleged Exclusion of State Youth Leaders
The forum accused Israel of running the APC youth wing without adequately involving duly elected state youth leaders, whom it described as key grassroots mobilisers of the party.
2. Organisation of State Events Without Consultation
The group alleged that youth programmes, rallies and political engagements were organised in various states without prior notification, invitations or involvement of the respective state youth leaders.
3. Alleged Selective Treatment of State Youth Leaders
The communiqué accused the National Youth Leader of preferential and discriminatory dealings with some state youth leaders, claiming that the practice had created divisions and factions within the forum.
4. Lack of an Inclusive Action Plan
The forum alleged that Israel had failed to develop a clear, actionable work plan incorporating the contributions and responsibilities of state youth leaders, particularly in line with Pillar 9 of the Election Readiness Framework.
5. Failure to Convene Regular Meetings
The group accused the National Youth Leader of failing to convene regular meetings of state youth leaders to discuss youth mobilisation, strategy, welfare and other matters affecting the party’s youth structure.
6. Concerns Over the Party’s 2027 Electoral Prospects
The forum argued that the alleged weakening of state youth structures could undermine the APC’s grassroots mobilisation capacity ahead of the 2027 general elections, when youth participation is expected to be significant.
7. Loss of Confidence in His Leadership
Citing the allegations, the forum declared that it had lost confidence and trust in Israel’s ability to effectively coordinate and lead the party’s youth wing.
The communiqué also referred to other alleged actions which the group believes could negatively affect the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
Resolutions and Demands
Following its deliberations, the forum announced the following resolutions:
1. Vote of No Confidence
The forum formally declared a vote of no confidence in Hon. Dayo Israel as the APC National Youth Leader.
2. Immediate Intervention by APC Leadership
The group called on the APC National Chairman and the National Working Committee to intervene urgently and address its grievances in the interest of party unity.
3. Convening of an All-Inclusive Meeting
The forum demanded an immediate meeting involving all state youth leaders to review strategies and strengthen youth mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
4. Possible Withdrawal from Activities Coordinated by His Office
The group warned that failure to address its concerns could compel members to disassociate themselves from activities coordinated by the office of the National Youth Leader.
5. Direct Engagement With State Youth Leaders
The forum declared that it would no longer associate itself with activities of Dayo Israel and urged the APC National Chairman and the National Working Committee to deal directly with state youth leaders.
6. Demand for an Apology Within 24 Hours
The forum demanded an apology from Israel within 24 hours over allegations concerning the purported distribution of SUVs to state youth leaders.
Dismissing the claim that its members had received vehicles from him, the forum stated: “Sir, we didn’t receive any car from him.”
7. Reaffirmation of Loyalty to APC Leadership
Despite its grievances, the forum reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC National Chairman, the National Working Committee, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party.
