FCT Minister directs immediate action on the abattoir, pledges to revive abandoned sports facility as Gwagwalada stakeholders rally behind Tinubu, Aduda and APC candidates ahead of 2027 elections.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to complete the long-abandoned Gwagwalada Mini-Stadium and ordered the immediate relocation of the area’s abattoir following concerns raised by community stakeholders.
Wike gave the assurances on Monday, November 2, 2026, during an interactive town hall meeting with stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition at the newly constructed Gwagwalada Civic Centre.
The minister said the abandoned mini-stadium would be completed to provide sporting facilities for young people and promote grassroots talent development.
He noted that the youths had made a modest request for a facility where they could engage in sporting activities, adding that the project could help discover future football stars.
According to him, the FCT Administration would ensure the completion of the project, which has remained abandoned for years.
On the relocation of the abattoir, Wike directed the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCTA to work with the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Kassim Mohammed, to ensure its immediate relocation.

He warned that failure to comply with the directive could cost the Mandate Secretary for Agriculture, Ango Abdullahi, his position.
The directive followed concerns raised by community stakeholders over the abattoir and its implications for environmental sanitation and public health.
The minister also commissioned the newly completed Gwagwalada Civic Centre, which was named after him.
Wike commended the Area Council Chairman for completing the facility and praised residents for their large turnout at the event.
He also recalled previous infrastructure commitments to Gwagwalada, including the road leading to Zuba, which he said was expected to be completed by December.
The minister further highlighted ongoing road projects across the area council, describing infrastructure development as a key component of the FCT Administration’s efforts to improve the lives of residents.
The town hall meeting also featured political mobilisation ahead of the January 16, 2027, elections.

Wike urged residents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda for the FCT Senate seat, Hon. Danladi Chiya for the House of Representatives and other candidates endorsed by the APC Rainbow Coalition.
He called on political stakeholders to mobilise voters across polling units, wards and communities, insisting that electoral support must be demonstrated through votes.
The minister also criticised politicians opposing the Rainbow Coalition, describing them as self-serving individuals who lacked the capacity to unite their communities.
He commended the FCT chairmen of the APC and PDP for working together under the coalition, saying the initiative had helped promote political cooperation and peaceful electioneering across the territory.
Wike also urged FCT residents not to repeat what he described as the mistake of the 2023 general election, calling for the election of representatives who understand the needs of their constituents and remain accessible to them.
Addressing concerns raised by students, the minister disclosed that the Chief of Staff would announce a date for a formal town hall meeting with students following his scheduled engagement with FCT youths on November 10.
Earlier, the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Kassim Mohammed, reaffirmed his support for the Rainbow Coalition and expressed confidence that the coalition’s candidates would secure victory in the 2027 elections.
He attributed the administration’s growing political support in Gwagwalada to the infrastructure projects being executed across the area council.
Representatives of women and youths also pledged their support for the coalition, while traditional rulers commended the FCT Administration for its development efforts across the territory.
The Aguma of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji, urged political candidates to sustain the development initiatives and embrace all residents, irrespective of political affiliation.
The meeting was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, former area council chairmen and other stakeholders from across the FCT.
