Nigeria’s second major private refinery, owned by Alhaji Abdulsamad Isyaka Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, is nearing completion.
Located in Akwa Ibom State, the massive 200,000 barrels per day (BPD) refinery is being developed in partnership with Axens, a leading petroleum technology company based in France.
Once fully operational, the facility will produce Euro-V standard gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene, catering to both domestic and regional markets.
Industry analysts believe this development will strengthen Nigeria’s refining capacity and enhance competition in the oil and gas sector — a key step toward reducing fuel import dependence.
Indeed, a competitive market remains the most progressive one.
