The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a significant victory in the Benue State local government elections, securing all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.
The elections, organized by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), involved five political parties, including APC, PDP, SDP, LP, and APGA. Despite logistical delays in result collation, the polls were largely peaceful, except for a minor incident in Otukpo where a BSIEC official was briefly held hostage but later rescued by the police.
BSIEC Chairman Richard Tombowua praised the peaceful nature of the elections, and various political figures, including Labour Party’s State Chairman Mr. Ibrahim Idoko and APC’s State Chairman Mr. Benjamin Omale, commended the commission for its fairness and transparency.
Governor Hyacinth Alia was also thanked for ensuring a level playing field for all participants.
