Kano Deputy Governor Abdussalam resignation sparks political tension as impeachment process intensifies in Kano State

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has officially resigned from office following mounting political pressure and an ongoing impeachment process initiated by the State House of Assembly.

The resignation, confirmed on Friday, marks a significant development in the political landscape of Kano State, where tensions have been escalating over allegations of misconduct and internal political disagreements.

Reports indicate that the state assembly had already advanced impeachment proceedings, with a majority of lawmakers supporting the move. The allegations against the former deputy governor included gross misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement, which intensified calls for his removal.

Sources within political circles suggest that the crisis was further driven by shifting alliances and internal party conflicts, increasing pressure on the deputy governor to step down.

Prior to his resignation, attempts to halt the impeachment process through legal action were unsuccessful, as the court declined to intervene, allowing the legislative process to continue.

Political observers believe the resignation may help reduce immediate tensions within the state government led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, but underlying political divisions are likely to persist.

Attention has now shifted to the next steps, including the possible nomination and confirmation of a new deputy governor in accordance with constitutional provisions.
