Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked commuters and farmers along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway and rural farmlands, killing one person and kidnapping nine others in renewed violence across the corridor.
Fresh violence has erupted along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway in Kaduna State as bandits carried out deadly coordinated attacks, killing one person and abducting at least nine others in separate incidents targeting both commuters and farmers.
According to reports, the attackers ambushed a commercial vehicle at Kwanan Giginya, opening fire and killing the driver identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, who was said to be the grandson of a district head. Several passengers were forcefully taken away during the attack.
In a separate raid within Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, four farmers working on their farmlands were also kidnapped by the same or allied armed groups, further worsening fears among rural residents.
The two incidents, which occurred along a highway long troubled by insecurity, have once again highlighted the persistent threat facing communities in the region despite ongoing security interventions.
Residents say the attacks have severely disrupted transportation, farming activities, and local economic life, forcing many to avoid the route and abandon farmlands due to fear of further assaults.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement as security efforts continue in the area. Community members are calling for increased patrols and sustained military presence to curb the escalating wave of kidnappings and killings along the highway.
The Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis remains one of the most dangerous corridors in northern Nigeria, with repeated incidents of banditry, abductions, and armed attacks reported over recent years.
