Foreign affairs ministers Resignation follows presidential directive for political appointees seeking elective office as Bauchi 2027 race gathers momentum

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was confirmed on Monday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who disclosed that the minister had formally stepped down from his position.

Tuggar’s resignation is in compliance with a directive issued by President Tinubu requiring all political appointees seeking elective positions to resign on or before March 31, 2026.

Sources within government circles indicate that Tuggar submitted his resignation just ahead of the deadline, signaling his readiness to join the Bauchi State governorship race.

His exit adds to the growing list of expected resignations from members of the Federal Executive Council, as several appointees prepare to contest various elective offices in the 2027 elections.

Tuggar, who was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in August 2023, previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany and represented Gamawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
