Osogbo, Nigeria – Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appointed his nephew and globally acclaimed music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The appointment, announced during a meeting with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), is part of the state government’s efforts to reposition sports development and attract private investment into the sector.
According to Governor Adeleke, the creation of the Sports Trust Fund will provide a sustainable financing structure for sports infrastructure, talent development, and youth empowerment in Osun State.
“We are bringing in innovation and global exposure to our sports sector. With Davido’s influence and network, we hope to draw investors and philanthropists into Osun’s sports development,” the governor said.
The state government is also working toward establishing a Sports Commission to handle policy formulation, administration, and implementation of sports initiatives across the state.
Davido’s appointment has sparked public conversations, with supporters praising the move as visionary, while others raise concerns about nepotism. Nevertheless, the entertainment icon’s vast influence in youth engagement and philanthropy is expected to help the new sports initiative gain visibility and funding.
