Kano State Government Orders Probe Following Alleged Medical Error at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre
A Kano resident, Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, has reportedly died after a pair of surgical scissors was allegedly left inside her abdomen during a procedure at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in the State.
According to her family, Umar underwent surgery in September 2025, after which she began experiencing persistent abdominal pain. Despite repeated complaints to the hospital over four months, the family alleges that she was only given painkillers and no thorough investigation was conducted.
Medical scans revealed the presence of the scissors just two days before her death on January 13, 2026. Efforts to perform corrective surgery reportedly failed as Umar passed away before the operation could take place.
In response, the Kano State Hospitals Management Board has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, pledging transparency and accountability. Family members and community advocates are calling for justice and stronger patient safety measures to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
