APC leaders call for reconciliation, unity and support for Tinubu, Wike-backed candidates as Kuje chairman pledges 90% votes for the party
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory has intensified its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders, elected officials, former council chairmen and stakeholders converging in Kuje Area Council for a stakeholders’ meeting.
The meeting focused largely on reconciliation, forgiveness, party unity and the need for APC members to work together ahead of the elections.
In his opening remarks, the APC Chairman in Kuje Area Council called on party members to embrace forgiveness, stressing that no successful political organisation can thrive without the willingness of its members to forgive one another.
He urged members who may have offended one another in the course of political activities to let go of their grievances and work together for the progress of the party.
Speaking at the meeting, the FCT APC Chairman, Hon. Tanko Yamawo, acknowledged the presence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi, as well as Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, Senator Isa Maina and the various executive chairmen and other party leaders in attendance.
Yamawo apologised to the people of Kuje for the party leadership’s inability to visit before the recent primary, explaining that circumstances had prevented the visit.
He, however, expressed appreciation to Kuje residents for their support for the APC and said the visit was an opportunity to appreciate them and strengthen the relationship between the party and the people.
According to him, the FCT APC reconciliation process had reached about 80 per cent, with efforts ongoing to achieve complete reconciliation within the party.
Using the examples of a patient visiting a hospital and a passenger boarding an aircraft, Yamawo said people are primarily concerned about competence and professionalism rather than the religion or tribe of the doctor treating them or the pilot flying them.
He therefore called on FCT residents to focus on the competence of political candidates rather than their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
Yamawo also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
He particularly referenced the rehabilitation and construction of roads, as well as the installation of streetlights, saying the developments were visible across several communities.
He also acknowledged the appointment of Hon. Zaphaniah Jisalo as an indigenous minister under President Tinubu’s administration.
The FCT APC chairman said the party would mobilise strongly across the territory, adding that the objective was to secure overwhelming support for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, Senator Jibril Wowo observed that the presence of virtually all major FCT APC leaders at the meeting demonstrated the strength and unity of the party in the territory.
He said the administration of President Tinubu and the FCT Minister had delivered several projects across the capital and maintained that the people of the FCT had benefited from the administration.
Wowo urged APC members and supporters to sustain their support for the party and its candidates, noting that the FCT now had representation at the Federal Executive Council.
The APC candidate for the Abuja South Federal Constituency also addressed the gathering, describing his candidacy as an opportunity and privilege to represent the people of the constituency.
He thanked Kuje Area Council for its support and pledged that, if elected, he would build on his previous efforts and do more for the people.
He also promised to return to Kuje for a more extensive engagement with residents and expressed optimism that the APC would record a strong performance in the election.
Senator Isa Maina, in his remarks, said although he was not from Kuje, he was present because of his belief in Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and his desire to support his political ambition.
Maina urged the people to support Aduda, arguing that effective representation at the National Assembly requires strong relationships and access that can help lawmakers attract development and advance the interests of their constituents.
In his address, Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, MFR, CON, expressed appreciation to the stakeholders, party leaders and supporters who attended the meeting.
He particularly acknowledged the FCT Minister, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi, as well as the executive and former council chairmen, FCT PCC Commissioner Hon. Musa Dikko and other party stakeholders.
Aduda said the large turnout demonstrated that the APC remained united and ready for the 2027 political season.
He disclosed that the party had established an FCT APC office in Jabi to coordinate activities relating to President Tinubu and other APC candidates contesting elections in the territory.
The former senator also highlighted some of the legislative interventions he attributed to his time in the Senate, including the FCT Civil Service Bill, the establishment of the College of Education, Zuba, and the electricity regulatory bill, among others.
Aduda said his experience and relationships within government would enable him to effectively pursue the interests of the FCT if returned to the Senate.
He also spoke extensively about the transformation of several parts of the FCT, including Kuje, Karu, Bwari and Gwagwalada, particularly in the area of road infrastructure.
According to him, some roads that previously required long hours to navigate could now be travelled more easily because of ongoing infrastructure improvements.
He called on residents to participate actively in the electoral process and support the candidates as a team.
Aduda urged voters to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, himself, Dalandi Chiya and John Gabaya, saying coordinated representation would make it easier for elected officials to work together and deliver development.
Representing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi, conveyed the minister’s greetings to the stakeholders.
Amadi described the meeting as both encouraging and reassuring, saying it demonstrated the level of political engagement within the FCT APC.
He said President Tinubu and Minister Wike meant well for the people and appealed to aggrieved members of the party to forgive one another and move forward.
He urged stakeholders to prioritise peace, unity and progress, stressing that divisions would only weaken the collective effort of the party.
Amadi further assured the gathering that with the support and backing of the FCT Minister, elected APC representatives would be expected to deliver on their responsibilities.
The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, who gave the vote of thanks, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, particularly the presence of several former council chairmen.
He described those present as committed and organic supporters of the APC and urged the former and serving chairmen to approach the 2027 mobilisation as though they were campaigning for themselves.
Shekwolo pledged that Kuje Area Council would work towards delivering 90 per cent support for the APC.
He also warned that the continuation of ongoing development projects in the area would depend on the emergence of leaders who would support and sustain the work already commenced at the council level.
The council chairman further promised to renovate and properly equip the Kuje Town Hall, including providing full air-conditioning.
He expressed confidence that under the guidance of Minister Nyesom Wike, elected APC representatives would deliver on their mandates, adding that progress and success must remain the priority.
