Lagos Police Vow Arrests Over ‘Chinese Must Go’ Protest At Trade Fair Complex

Police move to identify traders behind the protest as demonstrators accuse Chinese retailers of threatening local businesses at Lagos Trade Fair.

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to arrest traders identified as organisers of the “Chinese Must Go” protest at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.

The development followed a protest by traders at the complex, where demonstrators called for Chinese retailers to leave the market, accusing them of engaging directly in retail activities and creating difficulties for Nigerian traders.

The protesters were seen carrying placards and chanting “Chinese Must Go” as they expressed concerns over the growing presence of Chinese businesses in the retail market.

According to reports, the traders alleged that some Chinese retailers were selling goods directly to consumers at prices they found difficult to compete with, raising concerns about the impact of the practice on Nigerian businesses.

The protest has attracted the attention of the Lagos State Police Command, which has indicated that individuals identified as being behind the demonstration could be arrested.

The development comes amid continuing concerns among traders over competition between local businesses and foreign-owned enterprises operating in major commercial centres across Nigeria.

The Lagos Trade Fair Complex remains one of the major commercial hubs in the state, with thousands of traders and businesses operating within the facility.

Police authorities are expected to continue their investigation into the protest and identify those allegedly responsible for organising the demonstration.
