Officer reportedly punished for appearing on TikTok in uniform, sparking debate over police social media rules
The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly demoted a female officer, Sergeant Anemena Favour, for allegedly violating the Force’s social media policy after appearing on a TikTok live video while wearing her police uniform.
According to information cited by SaharaReporters, the disciplinary action followed an orderly-room proceeding which found the officer guilty of conduct deemed contrary to police regulations governing online activities and public engagement. The decision reportedly led to her reduction in rank from sergeant to corporal, with instructions for her service records to be updated accordingly.
Police authorities were said to have justified the action by referencing existing rules that prohibit officers from engaging in social media activities that could bring the Force into disrepute, especially while in uniform or on duty. The matter was reportedly reviewed at the Force Headquarters in Abuja before the disciplinary measures were enforced.
