Former Rivers State Secretary to the Government to Report to Police in Abuja Amid Investigation Into Alleged Assassination Plot
The Nigeria Police Force has formally invited Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), for questioning over a leaked phone call allegedly discussing an assassination plot against the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The invitation, issued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), is dated January 9, 2026, and instructs Danagogo to report to the IRT complex in Guzape District, Abuja, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Police say the move is part of a fact-finding exercise under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
The investigation reportedly stems from a leaked audio recording in which Danagogo is alleged to have discussed plans involving Israeli nationals to target Minister Wike. A Port Harcourt-based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, has already been arrested in connection with the alleged plot.
In the purported call, the suspects allegedly discussed securing funding from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, though no formal charges have yet been filed. The police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Danagogo is known as a close ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his summons comes amid heightened political tensions in Rivers State. He previously denied involvement in any assassination plans, describing the allegations as false and malicious.
The police investigation will determine whether sufficient evidence exists for formal charges. Citizens and political watchers are urged to follow updates as the situation unfolds.
