Says continued detention may deepen political tension ahead of polls
The legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has warned that his recent conviction could have far-reaching political consequences, including a possible impact on Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the matter, Kanu’s lawyer stated that the conviction and continued detention of the IPOB leader may further alienate voters in the South-East, a region already grappling with political marginalisation and security challenges.
