NOA launches awareness campaign to curb youth migration trends.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has announced plans to spend N252 million on a nationwide campaign aimed at sensitizing Nigerian youths against the “Japa syndrome.” The term “Japa” refers to the growing trend of young Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad due to economic challenges, insecurity, and unemployment.

The agency stated that the program will focus on creating awareness about staying and contributing to Nigeria’s growth, highlighting the opportunities available within the country. NOA said the campaign will include workshops, seminars, media programs, and community outreach initiatives targeting youth across all states.

The “Japa syndrome” has become a major topic of discussion in Nigeria, with many young professionals leaving the country in search of better living conditions, education, and career opportunities abroad. Government agencies like NOA are now emphasizing the need for patriotism, skill development, and local engagement as ways to address the challenges prompting migration.

While details of the program’s rollout are still emerging, NOA officials assure that the campaign will be strategic, youth-focused, and nationwide, aiming to reduce the brain drain and encourage productive participation in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
