NYSC boss cautions serving corps members against using social media or their NYSC identity to campaign for politicians ahead of the 2027 elections
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has warned serving corps members against using social media to campaign for political parties or candidates.
Nafiu gave the warning on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during his visit to the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Katsina State.
He cautioned corps members to remain politically neutral throughout their service year, stressing that those who use their NYSC identity or social media platforms to promote politicians could face appropriate action.
The NYSC boss also urged corps members to be careful about the information they share online, particularly unverified reports, manipulated images and videos, as well as content generated with artificial intelligence.
He advised them to always verify the source and authenticity of information before reposting or sharing it with others.
Nafiu further reminded the corps members that they have an important role to play in Nigeria’s democratic process, especially as many of them are expected to participate as ad hoc personnel during the 2027 general elections.
He encouraged them to support the conduct of credible, free and fair elections while staying away from partisan political activities.
The warning comes as political activities gradually intensify across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, with social media expected to remain a major platform for political campaigns and mobilisation.
