Three-month leadership programme by OMINYA Initiative, focuses on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, civic engagement and youth development
The Ominya Initiative for Peace and Community Development (OIPCD) has officially launched the Peacebuilders Leadership Internship (PLI 1.0), a three-month leadership and peacebuilding programme designed to equip young people with practical skills in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, leadership, civic engagement, and community development.
The initiative brings together selected young leaders who are passionate about promoting peace, unity, and positive change within their communities. Through weekly hybrid learning sessions, participants will benefit from mentorship, capacity-building trainings, and practical exposure to modern peacebuilding strategies and leadership development.
Speaking during the first physical session of the programme held on May 6, 2026, the Executive Director of OIPCD, Honest Salihu Gode, emphasized the need to empower young people to become active contributors to peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
According to her, the Peacebuilders Leadership Internship was created to provide a platform where young people can learn, connect, and develop the capacity to lead meaningful transformation within their communities.
The Week One session of the programme focused on the theme, “Introduction to Peacebuilding and Peace Leadership,” where participants explored the concept of peacebuilding, the importance of dialogue and inclusion, and the role of youth in fostering peaceful coexistence.
The programme also incorporates discussions on responsible technology use and the positive application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for advocacy, learning, innovation, and community impact.
At the end of the internship, participants are expected to graduate as Peace Champions and become part of Ominya Initiative’s growing network of young peacebuilders committed to advancing peace, unity, and sustainable community development across Nigeria.
