Senior Advocate of Nigeria Oyinkansola secures 12,317 votes to emerge as the second woman to lead the Nigerian Bar Association.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following the conclusion of the association’s 2026 national elections.

Oyinkansola secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, defeating other contenders to emerge victorious in the keenly contested election.

Her emergence marks a significant milestone in the history of the NBA, making her only the second woman to lead the association since its establishment.

Legal practitioners and stakeholders have welcomed the outcome of the election, expressing confidence that her leadership will promote professionalism, strengthen the rule of law, and advance reforms within Nigeria’s justice sector.

As the new NBA President, Badejo-Okusanya is expected to champion the interests of legal practitioners, advocate for judicial independence, and promote greater access to justice while upholding the integrity of the legal profession.

Her election comes at a crucial time when the legal community is expected to play an active role in supporting democratic governance, protecting human rights, and contributing to national development.
