Former Aspirants Accuse Party Chairman Of Disobeying President Bola Tinubu’s Directive On Returning Local Government Chairmanship Fees
A fresh party internal crisis is reportedly rocking the Lagos chapter of the following allegations that the state leadership has refused to refund ₦5.5 million nomination fees paid by former local government chairmanship aspirants.
According to a report by , aggrieved aspirants have accused the Lagos APC Chairman, , of allegedly disobeying a directive said to have been issued by President regarding the return of the funds.
The controversy is linked to the 2025 Lagos local government elections, during which chairmanship aspirants were required to pay ₦5 million for nomination forms and an additional ₦500,000 as administrative fees. The affected aspirants claim that there was an understanding that the fees would be refunded after the party’s internal selection process, but months later, they say the money has not been returned.
Some of the former aspirants reportedly described the development as unfair and capable of weakening internal trust within the party, particularly at the grassroots level. They argue that failure to comply with what they believe was a presidential directive undermines party discipline and respect for hierarchy.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Lagos APC leadership clarifying the allegations or addressing the status of the purported refund directive. The situation has, however, fueled tension within party ranks in Lagos, a state considered a stronghold of the ruling body.
