Opposition Says Funds Should Be Channelled to Education and Development
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has criticised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya over an alleged approval of ₦315 million and four plots of land for a Kano-based musician, describing the move as insensitive at a time when the state faces serious educational challenges.
According to reports, the alleged package includes ₦200 million as a cash grant, ₦115 million for the purchase of a Toyota Coaster bus, and four plots of land located in the Shehu Abubakar District Layout.
The opposition party argued that such a huge expenditure could have been invested in critical sectors, particularly education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment programmes.
In a statement, the PDP noted that Gombe State is battling a significant number of out-of-school children and questioned the rationale behind committing public resources to a private individual while many communities continue to struggle with inadequate educational facilities and other social challenges.
The party further called on the state government to provide clarity on the alleged approvals, stressing that transparency and accountability are essential in the management of public funds and assets.
The controversy has sparked reactions among residents and political observers, with many calling for greater scrutiny of government spending and prioritisation of projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
As of the time of filing this report, the Gombe State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations.
