
Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House, Abuja, marking a significant step in the administration’s effort to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process.
Professor Amupitan, a distinguished legal scholar and former Dean of Law at the University of Jos, succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu, whose tenure recently ended.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu charged the new INEC chairman to uphold transparency, integrity, and fairness in managing Nigeria’s electoral system, emphasizing the importance of credible elections to sustain democracy.



The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring free and fair polls, urging Amupitan to implement reforms that will restore public confidence in the commission.
Professor Amupitan, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the President for the appointment and pledged to serve with diligence and neutrality, assuring Nigerians that INEC under his leadership will prioritize credible elections and technological innovation in the voting process.
