Outrage Grows as Immigration Enforcement Shooting Sparks Fresh Protests and Renews Calls for ICE Withdrawal

MINNEAPOLIS, USA
Protests have erupted in Minneapolis following the shooting of a Venezuelan migrant by an officer of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a federal immigration enforcement operation in the city’s North Side.

According to reports, the incident occurred after federal agents attempted to stop a vehicle linked to an immigration investigation. The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly fled the scene, leading to a confrontation during which the ICE officer discharged his firearm, striking the migrant in the leg.

Authorities stated that both the Venezuelan migrant and the ICE agent sustained injuries that were described as non-life-threatening and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Two other individuals were reportedly arrested in connection with the incident.

Following the shooting, residents and activists gathered near the scene, staging protests against ICE operations in the city. Demonstrators expressed anger over the use of force and broader concerns about federal immigration enforcement practices. Law enforcement officers were deployed to the area as tensions rose, with crowd-control measures used to disperse protesters.

City officials, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, called for calm while acknowledging the community’s frustration. They emphasized the need for de-escalation and urged residents to remain peaceful as investigations continue.

The shooting comes barely one week after another controversial federal law enforcement incident in Minneapolis, further fueling public outrage and intensifying calls for the removal of ICE operations from the city.

The latest development has reignited nationwide debates over immigration enforcement, police accountability, and the relationship between federal agencies and local communities, particularly in cities with significant immigrant populations.
