Resign Now And Face Rivers Politics” — APC Secretary Basiru Blasts FCT Minister Wike

APC National Secretary Says Wike Has No Right To Interfere In Rivers APC Affairs

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has issued a strong warning to the former Rivers state governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to resign his ministerial appointment if he intends to remain actively involved in River State politics.

Basiru made this statement amid escalating political tensions in River State, accusing Wike of meddling in the internal affairs of the APC despite not being a registered member of the ruling party.

According to the APC scribe, it is inappropriate for a serving minister in an APC-led federal government to openly interfere in party politics at the state level, particularly in Rivers State, where internal divisions have deepened in recent months.

“If Wike wants to fully engage in Rivers State politics, he should resign as minister and face the people directly,” Basiru declared.

Basiru also dismissed claims that his comments were motivated by financial interests in River State, describing such allegations as baseless and misleading. He accused Wike of importing the political culture of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC and warned that such actions could destabilise the party.

The APC National Secretary further insisted that party discipline must be upheld, stressing that individuals who are not bona fide members of the party should refrain from influencing its internal decisions.

In response, the FCT Minister reportedly warned Basiru to stay out of River State politics, stating that external interference would not be tolerated. Speaking during a political gathering in the state, Wike cautioned that Rivers politics should be left to Rivers people, adding that those who ignore the warning should be ready to face the consequences.

The verbal exchange has further exposed the widening rift within the political structure of Rivers State and raised fresh questions about Wike’s political alignment and influence within the APC-led federal government.

Political observers believe the clash underscores growing internal tensions ahead of future elections, particularly in Rivers State, which remains a strategic political battleground. The controversy also highlights unresolved questions surrounding party loyalty, ministerial responsibility, and federal-state political boundaries.
