Former House of Representatives member Sokonte Davies has realigned with the coalition associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dr. Sokonte Davies, a former member of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, has joined the Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political group associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The development became public on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following Davies’ visit to Wike at his residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, announced the meeting on social media, sharing photographs of the two politicians.
Davies had earlier contested the ADC governorship primary in Rivers State but lost to former federal lawmaker Farah Dagogo, who emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Following the primary, Davies reportedly congratulated Dagogo and pledged support for the party’s political aspirations, including its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
His decision to join the Rainbow Coalition therefore marks a shift in his political alignment as politicians and political groups in Rivers State continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Davies previously represented the Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He also served as Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
The Rainbow Coalition, championed by Wike, brings together political interests from different parties. The FCT Minister has publicly associated the movement with support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 and efforts to coordinate political interests in Rivers State.
Wike has also indicated that the coalition’s approach to the Rivers governorship contest would involve consultations among participating political interests.
Davies’ latest move comes amid ongoing political realignments in the state, where questions surrounding party structures, alliances and the 2027 elections continue to shape political discussions.
However, his decision should be understood as an individual political realignment and not necessarily an official declaration that the Rivers State chapter of the ADC has joined the Rainbow Coalition.
