Controversial cleric Sheikh Gumi says security agencies are aware of identities and hideouts of terrorists operating across Nigeria.
Sheikh Gumi Claims Nigerian Government Knows Every Terrorist by Name and Location
Popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi has stirred fresh debate on Nigeria’s security situation after claiming that the Nigerian government knows the identity and location of every terrorist operating in the country.
The Kaduna-based cleric made the statement while speaking on the country’s ongoing battle against banditry and terrorism, insisting that authorities have detailed information about those responsible for attacks in different parts of Nigeria.
According to Gumi, security agencies are not completely unaware of the individuals behind terrorist activities, noting that their identities and operational locations are known.
He explained that his controversial visits to bandits’ camps in the past were not secretive, stressing that he often engaged the groups in the presence of security personnel and local community leaders.
Gumi said the aim of those meetings was to encourage dialogue and peaceful resolution to the persistent insecurity affecting northern Nigeria.
The cleric has long advocated negotiations with armed groups as a strategy to reduce violence, a position that has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, security experts, and political leaders.
Nigeria has continued to battle different forms of insecurity including banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping across several states, with the and other security agencies intensifying operations against criminal groups.
However, Gumi’s latest claim has again raised questions about the effectiveness of the country’s security strategy and the level of intelligence available to authorities in tackling terrorism.
As the debate continues, many Nigerians are calling for stronger and more decisive actions to end the wave of attacks affecting communities across the country.
