Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses advance to the WAFCON semi-finals after Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen’s 19th-minute strike ends Nigeria’s hopes of an automatic 2027 Women’s World Cup ticket.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have suffered a major setback in their quest for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after losing 1–0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The decisive moment came in the 19th minute when Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen found the back of the net to give the Indomitable Lionesses the lead at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Nigeria fought to get back into the game but could not find the equaliser as Cameroon held on to their advantage until the final whistle.
The victory sends Cameroon into the WAFCON semi-finals, while the Super Falcons’ defeat means they have lost the opportunity to secure an automatic ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup through this stage of the competition.
The Super Falcons will now have to regroup and pursue the remaining qualification route available to them, as they seek to keep their hopes of featuring at the global tournament alive.
