Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal officially resigns from PDP, cites persistent leadership disputes and deepening divisions as reasons for defecting to ADC.
Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing lingering internal crisis within the opposition party.
Tambuwal made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, confirming that he had formally communicated his resignation in writing to his ward chairman.
According to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, the decision followed deep reflection and consultations with political associates and supporters.
He noted that the PDP had played a significant role in his political journey but said the party’s ongoing internal challenges had made it difficult for him to remain a member.
Tambuwal stated that the persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the party had weakened its unity and direction, prompting his decision to leave.
The senator said he believes the ADC offers a stronger political platform anchored on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
“Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing,” Tambuwal said.
He added that despite leaving the PDP, he remains grateful for the opportunities the party gave him to serve Nigeria, including his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State.
Tambuwal also reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, justice, and national unity, stating that his political decisions would continue to be guided by the interest of Nigeria and its people.
