Abuja, Nigeria — Suspected terrorists have abducted seven construction workers, including two officials of the Kwara State Ministry, during an attack on a construction site in Kwara State, Sahara Reporters has reported.
The incident occurred in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area, where the victims were reportedly engaged in a government-related construction project before armed men stormed the site and whisked them away to an unknown location.
Ministry Officials Among Abducted Workers
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that two of the abducted persons are officials attached to a state ministry, believed to be supervising the project at the time of the attack. The remaining victims were construction workers handling the execution of the project.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the abducted individuals have not been officially released.
No Official Statement Yet
Neither the Kwara State Government nor security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have issued an official statement regarding the abduction. There has also been no confirmation of contact from the kidnappers or any ransom demand.
Residents of the affected community expressed fear and concern, calling on security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the victims and prevent further attacks.
Rising Insecurity In Kwara And North-Central Nigeria
The latest abduction adds to the growing list of kidnapping and banditry incidents in Kwara State and the wider North-Central region, where armed groups have increasingly targeted workers, travellers, and rural communities.
Security analysts warn that construction sites and government projects have become vulnerable due to their locations in remote or poorly secured areas.
Calls For Urgent Security Response
Community leaders and civil society groups have urged the federal and state governments to strengthen security around public infrastructure projects and deploy more personnel to vulnerable communities to curb the rising wave of abductions.
Residents also appealed for improved intelligence gathering and sustained security operations in forested areas believed to serve as hideouts for criminal groups.
