FCT Minister Wike calls for urgent reconciliation as party leadership promises transparency, unity, and credible congresses

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appealed to aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to the party, assuring them that their entitlements will remain intact despite their earlier exit.

Speaking at the 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, Wike emphasized the need for immediate reconciliation within the party, urging its leadership to take proactive steps in addressing internal grievances.

He called on the party chairman and his team to establish a strong reconciliation committee tasked with reaching out to dissatisfied members. According to him, many who left the party did so out of uncertainty and a search for political stability, adding that there remains ample opportunity for their reintegration.

Wike warned that prolonged internal disputes could weaken the PDP’s chances in future elections, stressing that while crises are inevitable in political organizations, the focus should be on effective resolution. He maintained that reconciliation efforts must go beyond mere dialogue and translate into lasting unity.

Reaffirming his commitment to the party, Wike declared that he has remained a loyal member since 1998 and has no intention of leaving despite ongoing tensions. He also highlighted the importance of transparency and openness in rebuilding trust and encouraging former members to return.

“If you engage them, they will understand and support the party. There is need for openness so that we can achieve the unity we desire,” he said.

In his remarks, PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, signaled a new direction for the opposition party, stating that it is moving past a period of uncertainty into one of strategic planning and electoral readiness.

He assured members that the party would adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting forthcoming congresses, promising a transparent and credible process at all levels.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, underscored the importance of unity, urging members to set aside their differences in the interest of the party’s national relevance.

He stressed that discipline and strict compliance with the party’s constitution are essential for progress, while commending recent reforms such as the e-registration initiative aimed at strengthening internal structures.

The NEC meeting marks a renewed push by the PDP leadership to rebuild cohesion, restore confidence among members, and position the party effectively ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
