G-100 convenes opposition unity summit in Abuja as six parties explore a common platform ahead of the 2027 elections

Opposition political parties and stakeholders under the G-100 platform have intensified discussions on forging a united front ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with efforts underway to present a single presidential candidate.

The development follows consultations between G-100 representatives and leaders of six opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

As part of the initiative, the G-100 is expected to hold a Summit of Opposition Parties in Abuja on August 18, 2026, where participants will deliberate on possible areas of cooperation and a common political strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.

The group said its consultations have revealed a growing willingness among opposition leaders to collaborate, compromise and make necessary sacrifices in the interest of building a credible alternative.

The G-100 stressed that it would not impose any candidate or political arrangement on the parties, but would rather provide a platform for dialogue through which the participating parties can determine the most suitable framework for cooperation.

The proposed alliance comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties explore ways to consolidate their strength, minimise vote splitting and mount a stronger challenge at the polls.
