President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly dispatched a high-powered Nigerian delegation to the United Kingdom to engage officials of the UK Ministry of Justice over the case of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who has been imprisoned since 2023.
According to reports, the delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). The officials were said to have arrived in London and met with representatives of the UK Justice Ministry to discuss matters related to Ekweremadu’s continued incarceration.
Ekweremadu, a serving senator before his conviction, was sentenced in 2023 alongside his wife and a medical doctor for an alleged organ-harvesting plot.The move by President Tinubu is believed to be part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to review the circumstances surrounding the case and explore possible resolutions through legal and humanitarian channels.
