The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has handed over 50 operational vehicles equipped with communication gadgets to various security agencies to bolster the fight against insecurity in Abuja. This initiative, aimed at enhancing the logistics capacity of these agencies, underscores the administration’s commitment to improving security.
The vehicles were distributed as follows:
- FCT Police Command: 24 vehicles
- Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps: 8 vehicles
- Advance Party/Security Monitoring, FCT Administration: 6 vehicles
- State Security Services: 5 vehicles
- Guard Brigade of the Nigerian Army: 3 vehicles
- Nigeria Air Force, 005, Abuja: 1 vehicle
- Naval Unit: 1 vehicle
- Nigerian Immigration Service: 1 vehicle
- National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency: 1 vehicle
Wike emphasized that President Bola Tinubu prioritizes the security of lives and properties, stressing that government’s role is to provide the necessary tools for security agencies to effectively perform their duties. He urged the security personnel to utilize the vehicles appropriately and not for personal use.
The Director of State Security Services, Adamu Gwary, highlighted the importance of these vehicles in enhancing the capacity of security agencies to address security challenges and respond to emergencies. Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Kayode Ojakinwa, expressed gratitude for the support and assured that the vehicles would be used effectively to ensure the security of all residents.
This presentation follows a previous donation by the minister on April 16, where 100 motorcycles were provided to security agencies to combat crime in remote areas.
