Bandits attackers storm Ibadan-area farm, kidnap expatriate and fatally shoot police officer during rescue attempt
Suspected bandits have attacked a farm in, abducting an Indian national and killing a police officer during a violent operation that has heightened security concerns in the South-West.
According to a report by , the incident occurred on Thursday at an agricultural facility in the Ogunmakin area, near Ibadan. The assailants reportedly arrived in large numbers and opened fire, overpowering security personnel stationed at the farm.
During the attack, the gunmen abducted the expatriate worker while attempting to flee the scene. A police officer attached to the was shot during a confrontation with the attackers and later died from injuries sustained in the line of duty.
Security sources said the officer was part of a team deployed to protect the farm following growing threats against agricultural communities in the state. Efforts to repel the attackers proved unsuccessful due to their superior firepower.
Following the incident, security agencies have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, while search operations are ongoing to rescue the abducted Indian national. Authorities are also said to be reviewing security arrangements around farms and rural settlements vulnerable to attacks.
The killing of a police officer and the abduction of a foreign national have sparked renewed concerns over worsening insecurity in Oyo State, particularly the increasing targeting of farms and expatriate workers.
Residents have called on the federal and state governments to strengthen rural security and prevent further attacks on farming communities critical to food production.
