Police Nab Suspected Cultist Allegedly Hired in Church Rivalry Killing Plot

Police authorities in Bayelsa State have arrested a pastor over an alleged plot to eliminate a rival prophet, in a case that has sparked public concern over rising tensions among religious figures in the Niger Delta region.

According to reports, operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command apprehended the cleric following intelligence linking him to an alleged plan to hire a suspected cult member to carry out the attack on the targeted prophet. The suspect said to have been recruited for the operation was also arrested during a police operation around the premises connected to the intended victim.

Police sources indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the dispute may be connected to rivalry involving church membership and related interests. Authorities say further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the alleged plot.

The Bayelsa State Police Command assured residents that security agencies remain committed to safeguarding lives and property while warning individuals against engaging in violent or criminal acts to settle personal or business disputes.

The incident has reignited discussions about the need for peaceful conflict resolution within religious communities and stricter measures against cult-related activities across Bayelsa State and neighbouring regions.

Police authorities have urged members of the public to report suspicious activities as investigations continue and suspects prepare to face prosecution in accordance with the law.
