IPOB leader directs resumption of markets, schools, and offices as sit-at-home policy ends after years of enforcement.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the official cancellation of the weekly Monday sit-at-home across Nigeria’s Southeast region, a directive coming directly from IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. The suspension will take effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.

IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful confirmed that markets, schools, offices, and transport services should resume normal operations. She urged the public to continue daily activities without fear of intimidation and warned against false-flag disruptions by opponents of the directive.

Introduced in August 2021, the Monday sit-at-home was a protest strategy tied to Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, significantly affecting economic and academic activities in the Southeast.

With the directive lifted, businesses and schools across the region are expected to return to regular operations, providing a boost to local commerce and daily routines. Authorities have called for peaceful compliance to ensure a smooth transition back to normalcy.
