Former Acting Chairman Secures Mandate as People’s Democratic Party Delegates Endorse Leadership at Elective National Convention in Abuja
Alh. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Sardauna Takushara, has been officially elected as the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the party’s 2026 Elective National Convention held in Abuja.
Mohammed, who had been serving in an acting capacity prior to the convention, secured the mandate of party delegates in what observers describe as a decisive moment for the party’s leadership structure.
The convention brought together key stakeholders, party leaders, and delegates from across Nigeria, all converging in the nation’s capital to chart a new course for the PDP ahead of future political contests.

His emergence is widely viewed as a strategic step toward strengthening party unity, restoring internal stability, and repositioning the PDP as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Supporters across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond have expressed optimism over his leadership, noting that his experience and commitment could usher in a new phase of growth and inclusiveness within the party.
Abuja affairs believe Mohammed’s tenure will be closely watched as he takes on the responsibility of leading one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties at a critical time in the country’s democratic journey.
