A U.S.-based Nigerian basketball player, Daniel Tobilola Adegboyega, has appeared before an Alabama court after being charged with first-degree rape by forcible compulsion.
Adegboyega, a 21-year-old student-athlete at Jacksonville State University, was arraigned following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at his residence in Jacksonville, Alabama, on July 28, 2026. According to investigators, the complainant had visited his apartment to watch a movie before the alleged incident occurred.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors presented details of the allegations while discussions also touched on the defendant’s immigration status. Reports indicate that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration hold on him.
In response to the development, Jacksonville State University confirmed that Adegboyega has been suspended indefinitely from all basketball-related activities pending the outcome of the legal process.
The case remains under investigation, and the accused is expected to face further court proceedings in line with the U.S. judicial process.
