From environmental sanitation and water revival to youth empowerment, road construction and workers’ welfare, Kuje Area Council records a growing list of ongoing and completed projects and initiatives.
Under the leadership of Hon. Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, Kuje Area council has recorded a number of interventions and initiatives across environmental sanitation, infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, governance and workers’ welfare.
Some of the key achievements and ongoing initiatives include:
- Operation Keep Kuje Clean: Launch of the “Operation Keep Kuje Clean” campaign, which has led to the clearing of several drainage channels across the metropolis.
- Revival of Kuje Water System: Work is ongoing towards the revival of the Kuje Water System to improve access to water for residents.
- Legislative Orientation Workshop: An exclusive legislative orientation workshop was organised for councillors, clerks and other legislative workers to strengthen their capacity and understanding of their responsibilities.
- Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination: Free anti-rabies vaccination was provided as part of efforts to promote public health and prevent the spread of rabies.
- Routine Refuse Evacuation: Regular evacuation of refuse dumps at Kuje Stadium, Pappu Junction and other locations within the metropolis is ongoing.
- Capacity Building: Capacity-building workshops have been organised for Supervisory Councillors and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs).
- Skills Acquisition for Over 100 Youths: More than 100 youths across the council have benefited from skills acquisition training in:
- Barbing
- Make-up
- Bag making
- Room freshener production
- Computer training
- Catering
- Tailoring
- Videography and film photography
- Free Eye Screening and Cataract Surgery: The council facilitated a free eye-screening and cataract surgery outreach for residents.
- Shetugo Alternative Access Road: Construction of an alternative access road for residents of Shetugo Community is ongoing.
- 108 Nigerian Army Recruitment Opportunities: The council facilitated 108 Nigerian Army job opportunities for youths from Kuje, who are currently undergoing rigorous training at three different Nigerian Army depots. This represents the highest single-intake figure in the history of Kuje Area Council.
- Implementation of 2025 Annual Increment: The council has commenced the implementation of the 2025 annual increment for eligible workers.
- Implementation of 2023 Promotion: The council has commenced the implementation of the 2023 promotion exercise.
- Payment of Peculiar Allowances and Arrears: Payment of peculiar allowances and other outstanding arrears is ongoing.
- Payment of Outstanding Pension and Benefits: The council is addressing outstanding pension, death benefits and repatriation payments.
- Kuzhigbu-Gofe Road Construction: Construction work on the Kuzhigbu-Gofe Road is ongoing.
