PDP candidate cites Wike’s intervention, urges supporters to back APC’s Maikalangu in February 21 AMAC poll
AMAC: In a significant political development ahead of the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), , has officially withdrawn from the race and declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, .
The move comes less than 24 hours after a similar development in Bwari Area Council, further reshaping the political landscape of the 2026 FCT Area Council elections.
Announcing his decision, Dantani revealed that his withdrawal followed the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , whom he described as the leader of the party in the FCT. He explained that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with his family and relevant stakeholders.
According to him, the action was not driven by personal interest but by the need for unity, describing the election as a “brotherhood” contest. He also stated that his decision aligns with support for the administration of President .
“I want to sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us. By the grace of God, we are doing this not because of our personal interests. Based on the intervention of the Honourable Minister of FCT, we have agreed that we are no longer going to contest against my brother, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu,” he said.
Dantani confirmed that he has formally submitted a letter of withdrawal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that the decision was made of his own freewill and volition.
He further called on all his supporters across the 12 wards in AMAC to come out en masse on election day to vote for Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, a move that is expected to significantly influence the outcome of the chairmanship race in the council.
