Bwaya Day 2026 Draws Massive Crowd as Gbagyi Culture Takes Centre Stage in Bwari
Bwaya, popularly known as Bwari, remains one of the foremost Gbagyi towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a community renowned for breeding legends, preserving rich traditions, and sustaining the true identity of the Gbagyi people across generations.
As part of sustained efforts to inculcate cultural values, unity, and identity among the people, Bwaya Day was instituted as an annual cultural gathering where sons and daughters of the land, residents, and well-wishers converge to celebrate and learn about the rich Gbagyi heritage through colourful displays and cultural expressions.
2026 Bwaya Day Records Massive Turnout
The 2026 Bwaya Day celebration witnessed an overwhelming turnout, as Bwari played host not only to its residents but also to a multitude of visitors who flooded the town to be part of the historic event. The celebration attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, including politicians, military officers, business leaders, traditional rulers, and clergymen



During the goodwill messages, Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, CON, who attended the event alongside the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commended the efficacy and growing relevance of Bwaya Day. He described the celebration as a vital platform for preserving Gbagyi identity and strengthening unity among the people.
Senator Aduda also highlighted the visible developmental efforts of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, particularly in satellite towns like Bwari, noting that deliberate steps are being taken to improve infrastructure and enhance the living environment of residents.
Similarly, the Member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, reiterated his commitment to the development of his constituency, outlining achievements recorded so far and pledging increased support for Bwari communities.






The Bwari Area Council Executive Chairman, ably represented by the Council Secretary, Hon. Peter Eli Kadanya, applauded the Etsu of Bwari, HRH (Dr.) Ibrahim Yaro, for his leadership and continuous efforts in fostering unity, peace, and cultural preservation in the area.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Mr. Solomon Dagami, Commissioner, Federal Character Commission (FCT), Hon. Musa Dikko, Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, and Hon. Tanko Yamawo, among others.
Beyond the colourful cultural displays that thrilled attendees, the highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by the Speaker of the Day, Hon. Ezekiel Musa Dalhatu, former FCT Public Complaints Commission (PCC) Commissioner.




Hon. Dalhatu spoke passionately on the true identity of the Gbagyi people, emphasizing the richness, values, resilience, and cultural depth of the Gbagyi nation. His speech also served as a call to the younger generation to embrace, protect, and promote their heritage.
Other prominent personalities who addressed the gathering included Brigadier General Hassan Jacob Bawa, the Education Secretary for Bwari, Mr. Tanko Isuwa, and Mr. Dandy Zawonya, all of whom encouraged unity, peaceful coexistence, and sustained commitment to cultural preservation and community development in Bwari.



The 2026 Bwaya Day celebration once again reaffirmed its place as a unifying cultural festival that continues to strengthen identity, promote heritage, and attract national attention to Bwari and the Gbagyi people.With growing participation and institutional support, Bwaya Day has truly come to stay.
