FCT Indigenes to Honour Minister Nyesom Wike With Infrastructure Award for Unprecedented Development in Satellite Towns

FCT Indigenes, The Indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will on Saturday, December 13, honour the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, with a prestigious Infrastructure Development Award in recognition of what they describe as an unprecedented wave of development across satellite towns and outer districts of Abuja.

The award ceremony will take place at Jummai Aduda Townhall, Karu District, according to a statement issued by Peter Samuel Aye, Secretary-General of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KAGBADA).

Unmatched Infrastructure Growth Under Wike and Tinubu — KAGBADA

Aye noted that FCT indigenes have never witnessed the scale and speed of infrastructure projects currently being undertaken under the leadership of Minister Wike and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He said the award is a collective decision by community stakeholders in appreciation of the minister’s direct impact on long-neglected satellite communities.

The event will also feature a public lecture on the 2026 FCT elections, to be delivered by former Nigerian Ambassador to Gambia, Ayuba Jacob Ngbako. In addition, KAGBADA will present scholarship awards and empowerment support to residents of the Karu Chiefdom as part of the day’s activities.

Key Projects That Influenced the Honour

KAGBADA outlined several completed and ongoing infrastructure projects credited to Wike’s administration, including:

  • Rehabilitation of the Nyanya–Karu–Jikwoyi–Karshi Highway, significantly easing traffic congestion within Karu Chiefdom.
  • Completion of the Kugbo Bus Terminal and Kugbo International Market, boosting transportation and commercial activity.
  • Reconstruction of multiple township roads within Karu, improving mobility and access for residents and businesses.

These projects, the association said, reflect Wike’s “bold commitment” to ensuring balanced development across the FCT, especially in areas that have historically been overlooked.

Community Stakeholders Unite to Celebrate Progress

The award presentation is expected to draw traditional rulers, youth organisations, women groups, civil society representatives, and other community leaders from across the FCT. Many have described the minister’s infrastructural push as a turning point for satellite towns such as Karu, Nyanya, Jikwoyi, Karshi, and Kugbo.

According to KAGBADA, the recognition aims to encourage sustained government investment in the satellite districts, which they say are vital to Abuja’s long-term growth.
